Suzette Daley is a storyteller, published author, and passionate literacy advocate who currently resides in Canada. She was born and raised in Jamaica and has three daughters. For over twenty years, Suzette worked as a hairdresser, but her passion for literacy brought her to a new career path.
Suzette experienced reading challenges firsthand when she immigrated to Canada as a non-reader. Her struggle with reading was compounded when she enrolled her daughter in a French immersion school.
Having a daughter who was faced with reading challenges inspired Suzette to go back to school to become a Montessori educator. She wanted to help people in her community who were not able to access this method of education.
Suzette’s personal journey led her to create a book titled “Guide to Early Literacy.” The success of her book inspired Suzette to start spreading the word about early literacy.
Suzette is a qualified and passionate Educational Assistant, specializing in teaching literacy proficiency among challenged readers. She has experience working with both adults and children, and volunteers her time to assist in boosting literacy skills in her community.
In addition to her work in literacy, Suzette is also a passionate author and storyteller, with a particular interest in highlighting the experiences of people of color. Her most notable work is “The Story of Lucie and Thornton Blackburn,” a short story based on the true-life experiences of freedom seekers who escaped enslavement in Kentucky and later founded Toronto’s first taxi company, “The City.” Their story is one of resilience, entrepreneurship, and community building, and Suzette’s vivid storytelling brings their legacy to life.
Suzette is also the founder of Mini-Intel Tutoring, based in Shelburne, Ontario. Her program is designed to provide children with the tools and resources they need to succeed in school and beyond.
Suzette Daley’s dedication to promoting literacy, education, and entrepreneurship in youth is an inspiration to many, and her work in her community and beyond has had a significant impact on the lives of those around her.
